Making the College Admission Process about You

Highschool me personally in Anything Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My title is Jessica Frey (informally known as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I was raised in Hollister, a tiny farm town in Northern Ca which has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothes store. I attended a large public highschool with over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to study theatre. My hope is that through sharing my very own experiences, I will give you some advice and help you feel at ease whenever you approach the school admission process.

Numerous of you readers are going to be applying to college it, and I want to make sure you know this is going to be all about you before you know. It may feel a little weird and selfish for those of you whom are constantly putting other’s needs before your own personal. But in order you belong and feel happy, you do need to make the college search process all about yourself for you to make an informed college list and end up at a place where.

I don’t know about you, but when I happened to be in senior high school I produced great deal of my decisions based on what others were doing and thinking. It is cool to put on pants that are red? Okay, maybe I will go get that pair I was eyeing at the mall last weekend. All the other kids in my class are applying to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. My counselor states I’d be good at engineering since I like my calculus course? We wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. They certainly were all genuine ideas I’d since well as many others during that anxious and stressful autumn semester of senior year.

You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Listed below are three fundamental principles I believe every high school student should retain in mind while they decide where they’re going to affect college:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Many people form viewpoints about different universites and colleges, you should really consider your personal ideas regarding the educational schools as well as the information you see as you research the universities that interest you. It’s important because they offer something that you want in your undergraduate experience- not just because other people you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation that you are interested in a college.

Think about what you want in a college experience, and accordingly apply to schools. It is now time to help you be a happy and thriving student for you to think about what a college campus should have in order. Do you want to attend college in a big city or a rural college town? Are you wanting to study abroad in a particular nation? What kind of activities do you desire to pursue outside of the classroom? Do you want to have the chance working closely with your professors? If you find a school you’ve never heard of nonetheless it has all you’re trying to find, include it to your list! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your family or school ever knew about the school ahead of your development. Maybe it’s a place where you’ll have a college experience that is enjoyable.

Benefit from the search process! The procedure of fabricating your university list can be quite a daunting task, but it is also an enjoyable experience. This can be your possiblity to learn just as much as you can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the country. This is the time for you explore the wide array of options and look closely during the colleges you might be considering.

I don’t write this website to inform you shouldn’t listen to your parents, counselors, or peers. You could have wonderful resources at your disposal that offer great advice and understanding. Counselors find out about many different colleges that can manage to tell you more about the ones that meet your criteria. Your parents will be in a position to help determine which schools will be within reach casinopokies777.com financially. You simply have to produce sure their advice also aligns with what you want in an university experience.

That said, I did buy and totally rocked the red jeans. We’ll acknowledge if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the institution, but during the end of the time that did not matter. It didn’t make me feel better about myself plus it was quite honestly a waste of the time and cash. But i did so follow my heart and became a theater major in the place of an engineer, and I also’m so happy I did. More on that later.
